Telus Launching New S5?

TELUS is set to bring the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active to Canada sometime in the next month, according to a trusted source.

The GS5 Active was announced earlier this year and is currently an exclusive on AT&T in the U.S. While the regular Galaxy S5 is IP67 dust- and water-resistant, the Active version has a hardened rubber lining along the sides and back, and is certified Mil-Spec 810G, making it resistant to humidity, heavy vibration, medium-force impact and a host of other natural or man-made dangers. It’s far more appropriate than the regular Galaxy S5 for verticals like oil & gas, mining and many other dangerous jobs, since it’s not going to break when dropped, nor will it crack when exposed to a fair amount of pressure. And, of course, you can leave it waterlogged for 30 minutes at up to one meter. Good stuff.

Aside from the chassis, most else is identical to the regular Galaxy S5. It does not sport a fingerprint scanner, since instead of a single home button there are three reinforced physical buttons underneath the 5.1-inch display. Samsung instead decided to include an Action Key on the left side, just above the volume buttons, which can be used to launch practically any app, including the camera. Inside the camera app, it functions as a shutter button.
